Rokuro wheel throwing classes teach a traditional method of Japanese wheel-made pottery. The following will be taught during Rokuro classes:
Kikuneri – A traditional Japanese kneeding technique, used to remove air, and even the consistency of clay. This technique is also used in soba buckwheat noodle making process.
Learning how to throw off the hump. By throwing off the hump, you will be able to make multiple pieces from a single large hump of clay in one sitting. Focusing on centering, pulling and lifting
Using a shippiki (thread) to cut off the pieces from the hump, instead of the wire.
Trimming pieces at the proper time for ease and achieving the best result.
Understanding proper weight distribution for throwing pieces in the Japanese custom, pieces are used daily and held in hand so having the correct balance is important.
The last class will cover glazing methods.
Suitable for new beginners and intermediate levels.

4 Week Hand Building Class $395
6 people per class + sensei

Hand building is perfect for people looking to create original unique one of a kind pieces. The following will be taught during tebineri classes : Pinching, slab, and coil making. We will cover the process of making cups, plates and bowls, and encourage you to use these techniques to make your own designs.
Understanding how to handle the clay properly. Timing alterations and trimming at leather hard.
The last class will cover glazing methods.

5 Week Intermediate wheel class $400
6 people + sensei
Start dates:
October 30th at 6pm
For people who have already taken the 6 week beginner wheel class and are proficient in spiral wedging and centering clockwise. Good for students wanting to throw taller, bigger, larger and forms with multiple parts
If you have already taken the 6 week wheel throwing class and want to advance your skills further, this 5 week class will teach you how to throw taller forms in order to create more complex pieces like vases and bigger bowls.

5 week Intermediate Hand Building Class $400
6 people + sensei per class group
For people who have already taken the 4 week beginner hand building class

Classes are held once a week same day, same time. We encourage you to come practice during open studio hours.
3 people minimum, 5 people maximum per class
intermediate class 3 people minimum, 6 people maximum per class
Clay, tools and glazes are included in the cost of the course.
During the course you will be making several pieces. For the pieces you wish to keep it is fired and will be measured at a fee of 5 cents per cubic inch
Due to the small class size, we do not offer make up classes.
Cancellation Policy
Please inform us at least 7 days prior to your class’ start date of cancellation for full refund/credit. Shorter notice cancellations will result in a 50% refund with the other 50% as credit for classes. If you cancel your class, please email us in order to receive a refund, it does not process automatically. We cannot offer refunds for classes that have already started.
